Hello, I'm Catherine.
Welcome to my portfolio!
I am a master's student in Geomatics, developing skills in GIS, remote sensing, spatial data analysis, and coding in R and Python. My interests include applying geospatial methods to environmental challenges such as wildfire modelling.
About Me
I am a graduate student in the Master of Geomatics for Environmental Management (MGEM) program at UBC. I previously earned a Bachelor’s degree in Geography, with a minor in GIS and Environmental Analysis, from the University of Guelph. I am fascinated by how geospatial modelling can be applied to address complex environmental challenges across diverse landscapes.
My graduate capstone project has led me to a particular interest in modelling wildfire spread and using spatial models to inform fire management strategies. After completing my degree, I hope to continue working in wildfire research and management, contributing to tools that support evidence-based decision-making and risk reduction.
Prior to graduate school, I spent time doing seasonal work in New Zealand and traveling. Experiencing diverse geographies strengthened my interest in environmental systems and landscape dynamics. Outside of academia, I enjoy hiking, collecting rocks and shells, playing volleyball, cooking, solving crosswords, and spending time by the ocean.
